( He's getting used to how people want him calling them, though the logic of it doesn't match what he knows. He tentatively paints a stripe down her upper back, then subtly rolls his shoulders and sets to continuing to apply the paint. It doesn't go on quite smoothly like inks do, but he can work with it. )
Quirk? ( He doesn't quite say it right, but hey. ) I don't know what that is, do you mind explaining to me? Is a quirk a common thing for your realm?
no subject
Quirk is... like an inhuman ability. Or magic, I guess? [ apparently that's a thing that exists in this world, so she will use that as a reference ] I can make acid from my skin. [ usually hands, but not just. ] And I guess most people have a quirk back home.
Not all of them make acid, though! Everyone has their own ability.

( He smiles, but it's more of a teasing one; their relative ages means that it's a bit familiar, but not the hardest thing for him to handle. Besides, she's professed her preference. He's just glad he asked for his own knowing. )
Mina it is, then! This whole quirk thing is very different from things I know... it's not inherited in family lines? Not trained at all?
( Asked while he continues painting in sure strokes, eyes only lifting to sometimes glance at her in the mirror, his eyebrows quirked up. )
no subject
Sorry about that! ]
It can be from a family line, but sometimes the ability is just random! And you gotta train it- [ Mina rises her hand, a blob of acid showing up in her palm ] When I was younger, I couldn't even make this much acid without getting tired. With training, I can now make tons of it!
[ she turns her head a little ] DO you guys have abilities where you are from?
no subject
( He's mostly stopping and starting as she moves, though eventually he holds up the brush and wags it like an auntie might their dinner: )
Less squirming, we'll get you painted faster.
( His tone of voice is more amused than anything else. Then he's back to doing what he can with the painting, only pausing when she's twisting around to offer up her palm and...
... tries to poke at the ball of acid there with the tip of his finger. )
Wow! Just like that? People cultivate and learn various abilities based on their capacity for it where I'm from, but it's all trained, nothing like this from birth.
no subject
Really? Most people in mine get an ability. Do you have any? [ she can't imagine just train an ability to make it happen. ]
no subject
( He pulls his finger back after poking, curious at its viscosity. Then he shifts his hold on the brush and sets to painting again, because that does need finishing, for her sake. )
Ah, hahaha, not the way you're talking about it. I was born with a greater affinity for cultivating, but even those who aren't can find ways, if they're inventive. The ability to use cultivation or talismans might be closer, but again, that's not an 'ability' passed down in the same way? Any advantage you have would be in training and using your learned skills.
no subject
What exactly is cultivating? [ cultivating what?
no subject
( he's assuming all those words have meanings to her, which is not strictly wise for him to do, but surely! surely it makes some sense? he dabs paint over where it didn't go on quite thick enough, then strokes the brush through to make sure it also doesn't look like she just got paint-brushed to the back of her neck if someone looks. )
The regions where I come from focus on martial swordwork as a means of cultivation, but it's not the only one that exists.
no subject
So you use it to become better at stuff like that... [ it sounds exactly from one of those martial arts movies that Mina has actually never really watched ] Does that mean you are super good with swords?
no subject
( He pauses in words but not action, close to done with the painting. )
Mm, a nonspiritual blade, yes! Not as impressive as a spiritual blade, but for that, you'll be more than impressed with Lan Zhan. He's here too!
no subject
Everyone's worlds are so different. It's kind of amazing!
no subject
( He chuckles, handing her back the brush. )
It's amazing, very amazing! Amazing enough that some can summon from all those different places and end up having us all here.
no subject
though that last part makes her pause ] It'd have been cool if we had a saying or... you know, they didn't bring us here because some crazy undead guy wanted to kill us...
no subject
( At that, he snorts, shaking his head. )
There's always someone who wants power and doesn't care for the cost other people pay for their benefit. We win each battle here by surviving. We win the war by finding a way home. Ready for the fight?
( He asks, coming around her side to give her a look with his brows quirked. )
