WHO: Anduin, Jon, Moiraine, & Yennefer
WHEN: Mid-to-late March
WHERE: The Haunted Forest
WHAT: Forest Group Plot Roll
WARNINGS: possible discussion of child abduction, animal hybrids, bad language (looking at u Yen)
The forest had not been a particularly inviting place the last time the otherworlders had encountered it, but setting foot in it now it is clear that something new is afoot. Even the smaller creatures of the forest have grown more aggressive and feral, and the further the group traverses into the forest, the more it feels as though the forest is out to get them.
As if the magical illusions of home and angry forest animals were not enough, as they advance they begin to encounter what can only be described as animal hybrids. Bears with antlers or tusks. Bats with talons or insect-like legs. Some of the animals even have human likenesses.
The Hok-Shinn have claimed to have been 'dealing' with the villagers' issue. As the group soon discovers, this entails leaving the remains of cattle strewn about the forest to feed the hybrids and keep them away from the village itself.
Anduin lets out a slow breath as the latest boar-bear mix shambles away. It had been far too big to risk attempting another fight, not knowing how many other animals there might be nearby. He glances aside warily at his companions and their village escort who has brought them this far.
"Do you suppose we are getting any closer to what is causing this?" he asks, voice only slightly above a whisper in case something out there in the forest might overhear. "There are certainly more of them in this area..."

Though when she'd first walked into this world she'd been alone, though it had first seemed strange now more than ever Moiraine wished for the guidance of Lan, wished for the skills her Warder had, that she had confidence in. Animals turned feral, issues she didn't yet know how to deal with-- they'd faced many things.
But instead she had people she was slowly getting to know, that had skills she was also still getting to know. And a hope that it would work.
"Somewhere they return or gather in."

“I’d track them, but…” He shrugs. The forest itself makes them harder to track than they should be. Animals are much the same anywhere, even these beasts, but the forest is not. A trail does not lead where it ought to; if it is not fresh, it may not lead much of anywhere. If it is… well, it still may lead in a direction in which the creature didn’t go.
“I’ve hunted since I was a boy. I’ve ranged in a place that the people called the haunted forest. I’ve seen nothing like this. We have to follow where the beasts are, not where they’ve been.”

The World she comes from has its fair share of curious, and very ugly creatures that will maim and kill and eat their prey. In her experience, it's the cute ones that deliver an even more grisly death. Yennefer was not going to underestimate this world and the creatures that inhabit it. She had no plans to die that day.
Her attention moves between each of the parties and gives a nod in agreement to what Jon and Moiraine say before adding, "I don't know about any of you but I would be more apprehensive moving around places where they weren't. I've never enjoyed a surprise attack because I'm too close to something they are protecting."

"This place is unfamiliar to us all," he says. "Tracking may prove to be especially difficult, with the magic that seems to have been placed upon it."
He frowns in thought.
"Animals do not congregate in such numbers unless there is reason. Natural or otherwise. Perhaps we need not track the animals themselves so much as... Whatever is drawing them here?"
He has no idea what he's talking about, in truth. Being a prince, and then a king, he's spent most of his time living within the confines of a city. Any traveling he has done in his young life has been, for the most part (up until arriving here that is), under armored guard...

She's spent enough time in the forest since they arrived, both exploring and on various little quests. There'd been enough that Moiraine had seen to clearly say that there was something unnatural influencing the place, as if that even needed saying.
"Though that influence may not be so simply trackable, not if it isn't solely the animals affected by it."
