"Where did you learn magic?" Her education had been formal, but she got the sense that wasn't usually the case based on run-ins with some of the other magic users in their group.

"Ah," he half-laughed, half-shrugged because it was no great tale. "Nowhere, really. It felt like it awoke in me, and then after some time, I became friends with a pair of twin sages who are very proficient, so they helped me with it a little. I'm not nearly so talented as they are, but it helps in times when a sword might not."

Lily hadn't noticed a difference, but she was quickly learning that almost everyone here seemed to have their own sort of magic.

He paused, then shrugged, not quite sure how to explain it but willing to try. "It's subtle, but there's something pure about the life growing here. And there's something sickened about the wolves. That sort of thing."
