Like any wondrous moment, it ends.

Emilia can practically feel the narrowing of his eyes in her direction. A feat, to be sure, as there is considerable distance between them, what with the sky and the sheer wingspan of their dragons.

The slit of her eyes to his, mirrored. The tilt of her chin, defiant.

"Is that what you would like to do?" she asks, a challenge in her tone, measured but with enough heat to suggest she'd take little to ignite. "Exchange notes on what we've failed to mention to each other?"

They've time before the violent winds come, to her recollection.

Wrath is quite aware that he has failed to inform her of a great deal both because of the curse and because of his own reasons throughout the time they have known one another. This should perhaps humble him some in recognition that he has no room to talk except it does not. He is angry and hurt regardless that she has chosen to guard herself so fiercely against him that he had little idea of all she has been through.

In truth, they both have ample reason to be angry and hurt, to have made the choices they did when they last spoke to each other. It doesn't stop Wrath from holding more tightly to his own emotions and experience, because he could not reach her.

"Perhaps it is what I would like, Emilia." His own voice is measured and careful, but there is a jagged quality to it, hinting at the sharpness of his own icy anger beneath the surface. "I am certain it would be illuminating given the skill with which you've shut me out entirely these last few weeks."

Even during the Tower, they went their separate paths in a place that could twist both their minds with such infuriating ease.

Perhaps she might've been deceived, once, but she's learned to read Wrath better. His answer carries the self-possession he's known for, but the tone of his voice reminds her of the Feast of the Wolf. The night that followed. She forgets this, sometimes, she does: that she has the power to hurt him.

She falls silent at the wounding reminder. Her betrayal and his omissions.

"I would thank you for that lesson," as the Master of Avoidance and Unavailability, "but I meant what I said. My actions have not been to spite you."

Their current dilemma is as intolerable to him as it is to her, she knows. But only one of them remains shackled to this fickle magic. She will not apologize for wading through that reality on her own terms, with what clarity she needs. He made his choice, and so has she.

Wrath stares at her from across the space between them as they fly on the backs of dragons toward a sandstorm. It's the most they have spoken in far too long, but she has fallen silent. Her anger has been quenched by the reality of their situation. What more can be said?

He wants her. He rebukes his previous choice. He would take her on the very sands they fly above, here and now.

"I am aware," he says, but his voice is softer than it had been a moment ago - resigned, tired almost but only Emilia would be able to read it in his voice. He knows she did not lie when she told him that, but it does not stop it from being painful.

Before he can say any more, the wind around them begins to pick up, and he tightens his grip on the dragon. His own dragon struggles to adjust as the next gust of wind rams into the dragon, catching its wings, and shortly after, the sands become too great to see one another.
