"Xunxian could help you make a business out of it, if you wish. An actual one."

"Could he?" What a thought. She purses her lips, and then sighs. "Honestly I'm mostly brewing for emergencies. Like one of us showing up with a severred arm, someone who has unending nightmares and needs a rest for a change. I haven't thought to sell them to others, or to sell them just yet."

Though, there's a thought. If she makes it back home, she could open up an apothecary. Use all the lessons learned the hard way here about substitutive potion-making. Not so much follow in Snape's footsteps as stomp heavily to make her own path.

"Of course. Its' what he's good at. He's Huangdao's most successful businessman, and he's already established a steady stream of money here selling his writings."

That, and it would be useful to have medicine in more than just emergencies.

"If you can vouch for their efficiency, he can find outlets to sell them."

She blushes a little at the mention of his writings, because she read that message loud and clear on the network, Moran, and it has stayed with her. "Right, the - erotic stories which apparently sell well?"

Incredible.

"They sell extremely well. People are the same no matter the dimension, apparently. It was a bit of work to translate them, but apparently we did a good job."

He looks totally unrepentant about it, too.

"But back home, he owns many businesses and all of them are very profitable. He can probably give you some good tips."

She takes note of that. "Wait, did he translate it into the common language here or from the common language?" Are they Su Xunxian's clients, or are they from Taravast?

Many questions.

I translated them for him into the language they speak here... well, the dialect I managed to get most familiar with, but it seems to vary only slightly from one place to the next.

We still have the originals, too, but unless you can read huagdaoyu they might not be readable for you.

[Clearly that is to him the only obstacle, he seems to think nothing of offering softcore porn to a young lady.]

"Ah, well, that's not - I mean I wasn't really - " She clears her throat, and tries to look deliberately anywhere else but at him. Curiosity might have come from the fact that someone could write in the first place, and from the fact that she wanted to read a new book so badly it hurt, but she's not been unaware of what genre of writing Su Xunxian sold.

She eavesdrops on the network, let's put it mildly.

There's a very obvious pink hue to her cheeks that could, she supposes, be considered a blush.

Apparently it's her other curse in life (here) to be continously rendered speechless and flustered by men with that fucking smug smile.

"Anyway, what is - huagdaoyu, actually? Did I say that correctly?" Probably not, but let's focus on this.

If he notices any embarrassment, he doesn't call attention to it, instead fanning himself lazily with his dark green fan.

When she asks, he pronounces the name again, enunciating the tone for each syllable clearly.

"Huángdàoyǔ. It's my and Xunxian's mother tongue. Interestingly close to what some other people are speaking incidentally, as we found out."

She memorizes it, maybe even mouths it quietly again, but doesn't attempt it out loud.

"Ah - like English is mine, and also that of some other people here too."

"Yes, I suppose so."

He touches the crystal pendant that is hanging around his neck.

"I don't quite get which magic allows these things to work, but they would solve so many problems in so many places... they appear to be quite common place here, if not exactly cheap."

(If you wonder why his username is the way it is on the network, Hermione, it's because his crystal was a hand-me down from a prostitute back in Sa-Hareth and he never bothered to change it).
