This happens at any point before the tragedy of the Colosseum: the community of artists and musicians that Connor shepherds represents is abuzz with talk over the bloodshed that took place at the banquet of Maximus Faustus on the Night of Knives, when alleged mimes carried out multiple senatorial assassinations. Fearing they might not be as fortunate in the event of a repeat, artists and musicians have been trying to get to the bottom of who these mimes were and how they can steer clear of ever sharing performances with them in the future.
Here is what they have learned:
— Ephes does not really have a tradition of mimes! There is a single legitimate school and troupe of mimes native to Ephes, the Golden Silence.
— none of the mimes at the banquet were members of the Golden Silence, who possessed no supernatural skills and no dexterity or physical strength or martial ability to speak of, when last seen.
— a former member of the Golden Silence says he left to pursue a more traditional job (farming!) when the troupe accepted a long-term contract with the elite Ephes army of the Hand. He is unclear what the Golden Silence agreed to do for the army, but no members of the troupe have been seen since. He knows they were promised a great deal of coin, which he only walked away from because the cult-like behaviour of the Hand frightens him and he wants nothing to do with them.
— the former troupe member believes the Golden Silence were taken to the Ephes barracks. Perhaps more can be learned by rescuing speaking to them...!
You have two options — please let me know within 48 hour if Connor:
A. finds a companion or two to infiltrate the barracks of the Hand of Ephes (medium-difficulty assignment) and find and speak with members of the Golden Silence if any remain — this option would require some kind of threading (network post, log or carrier pigeon), but will get you more information
B. only collects the remaining information from other artists, musicians and the former troupe member — this will still get you some information, and it'll be immediate
