It's called channeling in my world. Channelers can weave together threads of the One Power to create specific effects. [Though there's nothing stilted about the way she speaks, it does sound a bit like she's reciting a passage of a book from memory.] Not many people are able to channel at all - perhaps one in a hundred - and many of them are fairly weak in the Power.

[She raises her free hand to the torch, holding it up beside the flame. To a non-channeler, it won't look like anything at all happens before the fire snuffs out and then flares back to life; to someone able to see weaves, the fine threads of light curling around the torch would glow brighter than the fire.]

Lighting a torch is quite basic, really. Those who are skilled in the One Power can do all sorts of fantastical things. I've only just begun my formal training, but I've been experimenting with a few weaves of my own.
