Yep to both — would be cooler to do an actual party, I think, but you could also pull a Strange and ask if anyone else in the party can help — these items mini-objectives were ultimately just designed to encourage (whacky) CR. But I also don't want you stressed out in any way, so I will accept most of anything (just no handwaving)!
