It's actually better to scatter it around the buildings. Leave a bit near the doors, or draw a circle around the space you want protected.

[But it's... oddly charming to try and do it that way, honestly.]

I don't really think it will work well on those ghosts anyway. They're a bit too powerful for these tricks.
