No, it would not. We would not stop being liabilities just because we lose our memories, and then their only choices would be to protect us indefinitely or find a way to kill us that would not end up with our corpses captured by the enemy. If there was imminent danger of that, they would have taken action already.

It's not about believing. It's about practicality.
