Wei Wuxian and Hermione were attempting to take to waters to see if they could establish some form of contact with the ladies of the lakes ahead of the dead invading the village shores, following Miang-Si's being paraded around town, Hermione's being kissed, and Wei Wuxian's toad crisis moment.
