[ She stands not alone and there should be reassurance in it, though as surely as she draws her next breath with a companion for the steps ahead, Merrin is all too aware that he could easily abandon her if the darkness threatens to swallow them soundly. Yet, he walks first.

He speaks of not returning and it echoes her own thoughts; to return would be unlikely, though there is room enough left to believe the alternative is still possible.

She doesn't fear death, nor celebrate it, it is simply a new path she will walk soon enough. Perhaps here, of all places, if it must be so. ]

Let us be quick then. I would be of use before it consumes us.

[ That, perhaps, would be the only fate she could not bear to accept. As they descend and their surroundings deteriorate, she keeps vigilant watch over their backs, to be certain nothing sneaks upon them. There are reminders of Dathomir in the air, the promise of death, the knowledge of what has been lost and what yet remains to be consumed, the darkness a breathing thing that could be touched, that could choke the life out of them with its next groan.

Still, the fear is far from her. A curiosity tinges her thoughts, a way of thinking ahead, to how she can help. Fear would unsteady her steps. It is not productive. ]
