Alec, who had never considered the possibility of the eye animating again, is suddenly struck with the terrible mental image of it blinking wetly up at him from his hand in the wake of Magnus' question. He can almost feel it moving against his skin in his imagination. His whole body immediately shudders.

"I'm not making faces at it!" he protests over his own shoulder anyway, with a grimace that he refuses to acknowledge plastered all over his face. He climbs the ladder to the eyepiece of the telescope—no small feat with a slimy, 30cm organ in one hand—and... huh. Strange.

There's a perfectly sized curved plate between the lenses, which looks like its hooked into the gears and adjustable just like any of the glass pieces making up the mechanisms of the telescope. It seems almost too perfect for their needs, in a way that's hard to trust after some of the previous levels of the tower. Alec hesitates only long enough to look down at the eyeball in his hand and remember how disgusting this whole endeavor is, before dropping the eye into its proper place. It clicks into its spot immediately, and Alec drops off the ladder so he can wipe his hand off on his pants (definitely not any cleaner, considering what he'd waded through so far), and hurries back to Magnus' side. "It's in. Have you burned the papers?" Talismans, Alec, come on. "Are you okay?"
