[ Five could take his tears as proof of their relation, but he's quickly distracted by what they turn into. The disease is leaking out of his body and Five has little desire to experience it again. He nearly backs up a step when the child lifts his mask.

In the Commission animal masks were a favorite of field agents. If they revealed their face to a target, they were already dead. That's the first thing he thinks when he locks eyes with the crying child. He memorizes it, and the burns spread across it, before he says something that makes him regret his restraint.

He didn't know about the Beastmaster, and Five made it perfectly clear who killed him. Any other time that would have been an opening for an attack, but instead, the boy crumbles to dust. Eerily similar to what happened to Dolores in the Unwinding.

Then the room is empty again and he's alone. Without answers and with a bigger threat than he started with. He swears loudly to no one and mashes his palms into his eyes. Coming all this way didn't get him anywhere closer to finding out what happened to his brother; all he did was put a target on his back.

He doesn't have any energy to blink his way out. Moreover, he's surprised to find how lightheaded he is once he starts his dejected walk back to the elevator. He all but collapses once he's inside and slams his head into the wall. The pain feels somewhat grounding, and he becomes more aware of the wounds he'd been ignoring.

Somehow the quiet ride down, stewing in his thoughts, is the worst part of it. He'd been prepared to kill a child, and the only resolution he can draw, is that next time he won't hesitate. ]
