a.) [ Whatever Jim's standing on when he wakes up can't exactly be called an island— it's the smallest bit of "land" he's seen, and it feels far too unsteady to be considered that. Then again, that may have something to do with how disoriented he is.
Accepting help comes without a second thought; as soon as he realizes these pirates (pirates? really?) aren't about to attack him, he takes whatever assistance he can get, wherever that may lead him. Everything happens in a blur, the rescue almost as disorienting as his awakening, and he doesn't really have time to process any of it until his feet are touching the wooden floor of a really old pirate ship, amulet in hand and too many questions struggling to prioritize in his head. ]
Okay. What the hell.
[ ... sure, he'll start with that. ]
b). [ Things don't exactly become any easier the more he understands of his situation. If anything it seems all the more dire now, and whatever few items he has on him that may have helped have proven useless so far. He is, for lack of a better word, stuck. And alone.
Or, well, separated from his crew, which is about the same as alone for him. But he's never been the type to sit and cross his arms. Always the type to help others, that's exactly what he chooses to focus on, and even in the midst of whatever duties he's assigned, he finds the time to assist others when he sees them having any difficulty with a task before they're being yelled at by the crew.
Granted, that might mean he'll get into trouble as well, but that's not gonna stop him from helping.
But he also might find himself in need of assistance, particularly doing tasks that he has little or no experience with. One he has particular difficulty with is sewing some of the torn tails: his fingers struggle with the pieces of fabric flapping in the wind, and just when he thinks he got the needle pushed through one side of the tear, it slips from his grasp and falls all the way down to the floor of the ship. ]
Oh, shit—
[ How is he supposed to be able to do this? How is anyone? ]
➢ MOLLYWICK
[ He's got little interest in digging up treasures, so he focuses on what he thinks is the most important thing right now instead: food.
Well, he tries his best, collecting whatever he can find of fruits, plants and mushrooms. But he doesn't look too sure of himself as he gathers them all up into his bag. ]
Just hope someone can tell which of these are edible, [ he comments to whoever happens to be nearest. ]
➢ THE CROSSING; WILDCARD
