It helps that Chu Wanning has never not taken someone seriously in his life. While he always comes off as vaguely annoyed at best and outright angry at worst he has always approached every encounter, every person with sincerity.

He sighed. "...I am not good at doing things quietly." Which smarted to say but he felt it needed to be said anyway. Even when he was trying to be lowkey the best he could do was wear a mask or avoid speaking to culivators from certain sects...neither of which would suffice here.
