But I don't understand why they would literally invite the foxes in. That's... that's the opposite of curse breaking. They should want to ward against them, keep them out at all costs. Instead they literally put themselves in a situation where more of their own get killed or hurt and blame the foxes some more after that. It's just... weird.
I'm surprised they don't have a ring of salt around the entire village or any talismans, with how many spirits they seem to attract.
