That's an interesting take. Marcos huffs a laugh, but when he looks at him he seems serious. Right. Let him not talk about how awful his own father was and how he'd kicked him out the day Marcos refused to follow his horrible rules. He does try to be sensitive, not knowing what Wrathion's family life was like.
"I somehow doubt that's the reason." The guy honestly came across as more of a control freak to him, and he's fully expecting to hear more about it from Lorna the next time he takes out his communicator. "It is fair to assume we're being watched, but I don't know how much they buy our backstories. It seemed to me like they'd take any excuse to find people to take part in their weird ritual."
And yes, he is very aware that he just learned a lesson about respecting another person's customs by a certain group of mutants who lived in the sewer. They branded the face of anyone who joined them who didn't already have a visible mutation, and he was pretty vocally against it until he was reminded that they were doing it voluntarily. That's part of why he agreed to the customs here, but once he saw bands appearing on his wrists and ankles he started to regret his decision.
No need to get into his issues though. He feels a little bad for discouraging Wrathion from seeing his friend, so he tries to make up for it.

"Do you... want me to help sneak you in?"
